The Future of the Oakdale Blog

It’s been a while since I’ve posted here (almost two months), and life has been busy!

But I’ve been using some of that time to reevaluate, reprioritize, and rethink what this blog should look like and contain in the future. And while I still don’t have a crystal-clear plan, I do have some ideas that I’m excited about and hope you will be too.

  1. I still plan on bringing you more useful and interesting (at least, I think so!) content on writing, language, and publishing. That’s not going away, but those posts will come to you only about once or twice a month, depending on what’s on my mind and what I’m seeing a need for.
  2. I’m also working on lining up some guest bloggers, so mine isn’t the only voice you hear. There is such a wealth of great knowledge, ideas, and experiences out there that can bring a lot of value to your lives and writing.
  3. I’ve also been looking for ways to make the blog more fun for me (and hopefully, for you too). And since I’m an avid reader, I thought I’d post once a month about a book I’ve read and enjoyed. One of the best ways to become a better writer is to read. Extensively and voraciously. So, my recommendations will be fairly eclectic, everything from fiction to nonfiction and fantasy to personal growth.
  4. While I don’t believe in prescriptivism or grammar policing, we all have grammar pet peeves, and I’d like to dig into a few of mine and perhaps some of yours, as well. I plan to keep the tone light, informative, and respectful, but there’s a lot to be learned from examining what bothers us and whether it is an actual error, just sounds wrong but is actually correct, is a regionalism, or is evidence of an evolving language.

That’s what I have so far, but as always, suggestions and requests are more than welcome.
